Passports
From 31 August 2009
The passport service for British nationals in Guyana will move from the British High Commission, Georgetown, Guyana, to the UK Passport Service Centre for the Americas and Caribbean in Washington D.C.
From 31 August 2009 passport applications should be sent by courier or registered post directly to:
The UK Passport Service Centre for the Americas and Caribbean
British Embassy
19 Observatory Circle, NW
Washington, DC 20008
The passport team in the UK Passport Service Centre for the Americas and the Caribbean aim to issue new passports within 10 working days of receiving the correct supporting documents (excluding transit time).
All the relevant passport forms can be downloaded together with new information on the application process and fees from ukinusa.fco.gov.uk.
In the meantime The British Embassy in Guyana will continue to issue Emergency Passports for people who need to travel quickly.
What this means for you?
- Keep your passport in a safe place
- Check its validity. (Passports can be renewed up to 9 months before they expire. The extra time will be added on to the new passport’s period of validity).
- If you do not have a full validity passport, you will need to allow extra time to obtain one.
- If you are a frequent traveler to countries requiring a visa, please contact the British High Commission in Guyana about purchasing a second passport.
