Our High Commission in Georgetown

The British High Commission in Georgetown, Guyana represents the British Government in its relations with the Governments of Guyana and Suriname and with the CARICOM Secretariat.

We are located at 44 Main Street, Georgetown, Guyana.

Mission Statement

To deliver our objectives on security, the economy and governance at national and regional levels, and on public service by rigorously deploying our staffing and financial resources to maximum effect.

Our Role

The British High Commission represents the British Government in its relations with the Governments of Guyana and Suriname and with the CARICOM Secretariat and is responsible for promoting British interests.

The High Commissioner, Fraser Wheeler, arrived in Guyana in 2006. His tasks are to present British policies to the Government and people of Guyana and Suriname, to report and explain their policies and views to the British Government in London and to promote British interests.

The Political Section:

is responsible for political relations with Guyana and Suriname and with the CARICOM Secretariat. The UK is committed to a strong partnership and plays a positive role in their political and economic development. We work together in areas such as international law, security, climate change, human rights, good governance, and democracy.

The Consular Section:

provides assistance and protection for British citizens and issues British passports.

The Visa Section:

is responsible for entry clearance into the UK. It provides visa services to local citizens who wish to visit the UK either on business, studies or as tourists.

Public Diplomacy Section:

is responsible for promoting beneficial engagements with the public that are aimed at ensuring the objectives of the High Commission are achieved.

The Management Section:

is responsible for all personnel, financial and administrative services and provides support to all other sections.

 

The UK Department for International Development (DFID) Guyana

is resppnsible for implementing DFID's programme in Guyana
